Seiei Matcha – Shizuoka, Japan
2026 First Harvest
For 2026, Seiei (青影, “Green Shadow”) has been newly re-blended using exclusively first-harvest tencha from the 2026 spring season.
This year’s blend was crafted to bring greater depth, balance, and presence to the cup. Vibrant green in color with a smooth, creamy texture, Seiei opens with fresh vegetal sweetness and rich umami, followed by a pronounced returning sweetness (hui gan) and a clean, lingering finish.
Cultivated from the renowned Yabukita cultivar in the misty hills of Shizuoka’s Kakegawa region, Seiei (青影, “Green Shadow”) Matcha is a ceremonial-grade tea that embodies clarity, richness, and depth. Shade-grown and stone-milled to a silky powder, it reveals a vibrant green hue, creamy texture, and refined character.
Flavor profile:
Aroma: Fresh grass, clean, subtle floral
Palate: Creamy, smooth, balanced umami
Finish: Nutty, creamy, lingering sweetness
Matcha Seiei is excellent for usucha (thin tea), yet it shines even more beautifully in a matcha latte — where the Yabukita cultivar’s depth and creaminess create a perfectly balanced and indulgent experience.
Great
I’ve purchased Tensei many times and have always been impressed with its rich flavor. Since it was out of stock, I decided to try Seiei as an alternative.
Unfortunately, Seiei falls well short. The flavor is noticeably weak—so much so that it’s difficult to recognize it as matcha. Even when using 4.5g in 180 ml of milk, the taste remains faint, whereas 3.2g of Tensei produces a much fuller and more satisfying cup.
At $36, I don’t feel this product offers good value for its quality. I wouldn’t purchase it again.
I made very tasty latte with it.
So tasty!
The matcha is high value. I made wonderful latte with it. making my morning refreshing.
