Silver Needle White Tea is a high end white tea made by only chubby tea buds covered with abundant white hair. It has a beautiful name, Bai Hao Yin Zhen. Bai Hao, or ‘silver’, refers to the downy white pekoe growing along the buds, while Yin Zhen, ‘needle’, describes the appearance of the thick, straight buds, with tips as fine and sharp as needles.
The Legend of Silver Needle
Centurites ago, a severe drought struck the Zhenghe region of Fujian, leading to a plague that claimed many lives. It was said that a heavenly herb grew on the Dong Gong Mountain, able to cure all disease. Many young men ventured into the montain to seek it – but none ever returned. Two brothers failed to find it, turning to stone on their journey. Their sister Yu Chi bravely continued. Guided by wisdom and persistence, she discovered the silvery buds of an “immortal herb”, brought back its seeds, and saved entire village.
That “immortal” herb was later known as the tea plant, whose silvery buds became the famous Silver Needle white tea, treasured for its purity and healing reputation.
