Before matcha lattes, matcha was a tea prepared in the study of Chado (茶道 - the Way of Tea) in Japan. It was a spiritual and philosophical practice rooted in ritual, where the principles and rules applied in the tea space extend to daily life.
Join Helen from @secretteatime in this 90 minute journey, where she demonstrates the Ryakubon-temae (tray procedure) of making matcha, while learning about the history, the philosophy, and the connection between ourselves with the items, the tea, guests, and the present moment. Participants will learn hands-on a simplified version with a set of wares and utensils. (Available for purchase to take home if they wish to buy a set).
Participants can take this opportunity to ask about care for the vessels and tools, so they can build a long and sustainable relation with these items that we collaborate with to make a good bowl of tea.
