Discover the Art of Tea Wagashi with Yuxuan

Toronto’s first tea wagashi artist, Yuxuan Cai, has been refining and innovating traditional wagashi since 2023. Having trained under both Chinese and Japanese masters, she has developed a distinctive style that blends time-honored craftsmanship with contemporary creativity. In June 2025, Yuxuan established Toronto’s first dedicated tea wagashi studio, where she preserves traditional techniques while adapting flavors to local tastes and designing creations that reflect Canadian culture.

Her studio offers a variety of experiences, including gift box retail, hands-on workshops, parent-child activities, customized dessert tables for weddings and events, and tea break catering for corporate and private gatherings.

This autumn, Yuxuan invites you to an immersive tea wagashi workshop celebrating the season. Specially developed for this class, participants will craft three autumn-inspired designs — Peony, Hydrangea, and Camellia — with fillings such as matcha cream, black tea cream, and blueberry. All tools and materials will be provided, along with one-on-one guidance to help you create your own delicate tea wagashi. Elegant packaging boxes are included so you can take your handmade confections home to enjoy or share.

During the workshop, you’ll:

  • Discover the cultural origins of tea wagashi.

  • Receive step-by-step guidance to create three seasonal wagashi.

  • Take home your finished creations in beautifully designed packaging.
